Founded in 1977, B&L started as a small, family-run, local business. Now, focused on personalized client partnerships, brilar has diversified far beyond snow management and grounds maintenance, by tailoring our services to be location-specific. We insist “there isn’t a portfolio or project too big for us to handle.”

We are a multi-dimensional company, currently providing a full spectrum of facility maintenance services to commercial, industrial, municipal, and retail centers throughout the Midwest and across the country. Specializing in large multi-property portfolios, we are able to efficiently, effectively, and aesthetically manage all aspects of your properties' needs; making your life easier!

Brilar is headquartered in Metro Detroit, Michigan and boasts over 200 employees, including a highly-trained, fully dedicated and accessible management team for our clients. We offer access to technology, resources and expertise, coupled with friendly, detail-oriented customer service.

Larry Yaffa


Larry collaborates with our COO and leadership team to provide strategic direction for brilar, as well as creating partnerships with vendors for sourcing and delivery of assets. Additionally, Larry is ASCA-C certified, sits on several association committees, and organizes an annual charity golf outing.

Born and raised in the Greater Detroit area, Larry comes from a family of four (two sisters and a brother). “I enjoy all of the time we get to spend together. Family is invaluable. One of my biggest personal values is respect. This has helped me through the years both personally, and professionally to forge long-standing relationships.”

Mike Voories


As Chief Operating Officer, Mike is responsible for guiding the company’s growth, profitability, and strategic initiatives. Mike provides guidance and direction to our Leadership Team. Along with a BBA from Cleary University, Mike is a SIMA Certified Snow Professional (CSP) and has been in the landscape maintenance & snow management industry for over 24 years.

Mike lives in Brighton, MI and enjoys spending time with his wife, Alisa, and their Border Collie, Winston. Outside of brilar, Mike is an author, business consultant, and bourbon and fine cigar connoisseur.

Luke Kammer

Vice President of Sales

Luke, with a degree from ITT Tech in Chicago Illinois, currently serves as the Vice President of Sales for our Detroit Market, as well as new business development for Oak Park & Livonia. Luke has previously sat on the Board of Directors for the DMAA from 2011-2020 and received the DMAA Business Partner of the Year in both 2011 and 2020. He is still heavily involved and currently serves on the membership committee.

“Outside of work I enjoy playing golf, bowling, and cruising to tropical destinations with family. My wife and I live in Farmington Hills, MI along with our two children, Luke and Reygan. I coach my son’s baseball team and enjoy being a cheer and dance dad for my daughter."

Bob McCurdy

Regional Director Of Operations

With over 25 years of Green Industry experience, Bob focuses on the performance and profitability of our Oak Park, Livonia, and Grand Rapids branches. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Crop and Soil Sciences from Michigan State University and has a background in wholesale distribution and commercial landscape industries.

Bob lives in the Greater Detroit Area with his family. "We spend most of our time running from soccer fields to basketball courts to keep up with Lauren’s busy athletic schedule. When there is a moment to breathe, I like to hit the links for a round of golf or escape with my family to the Dominican Republican for some rest and relaxation.”

Heather Woodruff

Marketing Coordinator

Residing in Saint Clair Shores, MI, Heather serves as brilar’s Marketing Coordinator and works closely with the leadership team to deliver exceptional results, coordinate marketing efforts, and ensure consistent brand voice company-wide.

“Both unity and respect are values I employ everyday while at work. It is important to me to both earn respect and give respect to others so the common goal can be achieved.”

“Outside of work, I’m a dog mom to one, very sweet, 100lb puppy named Gimli and an aunt to five nieces and three nephews. I’m very lucky! I enjoy reading, traveling, hiking, and exploring the great outdoors with my husband, Russ.”

Jason Pease

Regional Director of Operations

With over 27 years of experience in the landscaping industry and extensive OSHA training, Jason oversees operations throughout the midwest and handles production planning, ensures safety, and encourages maximum profitability. Jason was born and raised in Southwest Michigan and encourages teams to work together efficiently, safely, and collaboratively.

“I have been in the landscape industry since I graduated from high school in 1994. Throughout this time, I’ve been a crew member, leader, supervisor, operations manager, account manager, safety director, and now a regional director. I strive to seek understanding and clarity in all of my decision making. Outside of work, I enjoy attending live concerts (especially hard rock), spending time with my two children, and traveling to historical or tropical destinations.”

Matt Gerich

Director of Training & Safety

With over 40 years of experience and degrees in the horticultural and snow industry service, Matt serves as the Director of Training & Safety for brilar. Matt is a CLP, as well as a CSP and oversees the development and implementation of training and safety programs for our team.

“I’m a teacher at heart, which drives me to help individuals learn through my experiences. I enjoy sharing my experiences and how they have enriched my life.”

“I was raised in Birmingham, MI and enjoy spending time with my wife Barbara, our two daughters, and our baby grandson. Outside of work, I enjoy rowing, golfing, writing, and riding my Harley Davison. I am known for the true uncertainty of my age and all of the famous (or infamous) people I have known in my life. I have learned great things and gained knowledge from these people and enjoy spreading that knowledge to others. By leading the Training Academy and the Safety Department, it has allowed me to spread knowledge and instill passion to others.”

Randy Hija


With a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in international management, Randy oversees brilar’s daily accounting operations including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and guides strategic financial decisions. Randy has experience working in start-ups, multi-national, and international companies alike.

“Integrity and respect are values that you must possess in business. I hold strong to these core values in business and all aspects of my life. Throughout my career, I have been diligent to respect everyone I come in contact with and treat others the way I want to be treated.

My wife Renata, my son Kenny, daughter-in-law Tiffany, and granddaughter Skylar are very important in my life. The addition of my granddaughter gave a much different outlook on things and I enjoy getting to spend time with her and watch her grow. Outside of brilar, I enjoy traveling with my family and spending time at our home in Northern Michigan. We take advantage of boating, snowmobiling, and relaxing whenever we have the chance.”

Sofia Nelson

Executive Assistant

Sofia works directly with brilar’s COO, Mike Voories, to assist with various projects and day-to-day duties. In addition to her contributions at brilar, Sofia devotes time to volunteering and non-profit organizations. Sofia was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia and enjoys spending time with her husband and two dogs, as well as traveling to Europe and reading.

Marsha Baker

Director of Human Resources

Marsha oversees the human resources department. She works with the dynamic talent acquisition team and leadership team to recruit a happy and engaged workforce. Marsha has over 12 years of experience in the green and snow industry and is an alumni of the Ivy Tech business management and administration program. Marsha truly enjoys connecting people to their passion in order to help them achieve their goals, through facilitating the best hires and promoting internal talent growth.

“I’m a mother of three daughters and share a household with my girls, husband, two birds. We’re a full house! When I’m not at work, I enjoy traveling, reading, bird watching, and helping others curate their next traveling experience.”

Travis Jacks

National Portfolio Manager

Travis works alongside our leadership team to manage, run, and promote the growth of our entire National Portfolio Division. Travis aims to create a leadership culture for himself and those around him, all while holding true to each of brilar’s core values.

“I was born and raised in Ohio and live with my wife, Hilary, and our three boys Liam, Abe, and Eli. My family and I are very active and all three boys play sports that keep us busy! Outside of work, I enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, traveling, and spending time outdoors.”
